NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. – South Carolina Federal Credit Union isencouraging area credit unions to show their support for tsunamivictims in southeast Asia by committing to match donations to WaterMissions International (WMI) up to $10,000. Charleston, SouthCarolina-based WMI designs integrated engineering systems thatprovide clean drinking water to aid in emergency relief efforts.Each of these units, called Living Water Treatment Systems, canpurify up to 10,000 gallons of water per day, which is enough for3,000 to 5,000 people. “I can't think of anything more criticalthan providing clean water to the victims of this terribletragedy,” said SC FCU President/CEO Scott Woods. “We are committedto joining with our credit union family in support of thoseaffected by the tsunami.” S.C. Federal will accept donations fromarea credit unions on behalf of WMI through March 31, 2005 and willforward the funds to WMI in one lump sum, including the creditunion's match up to $10,000. The credit union is also acceptingdonations from anyone wishing to contribute to the World Council ofCredit Unions.
