MADISON, Wis. – CUNA has introduced a statement stuffer, “Back in the Black: Tools to Keep Your Checkbook on Track” that explains services members can use to help them prevent overdrafts on their checking accounts. Among the services detailed in the statement stuffer are transfers, lines of credit and courtesy pay programs. The stuffer outlines many of the costs associated with each of the programs and compares a loan from a payday lender to another similar but lower cost option – a line of credit. CUNA said it designed this particular statement stuffer with Check 21 in mind. The law facilitates faster check clearing times which may increase the more than 125 million bad checks consumers already write each year. CUNA has also designed a statement stuffer called “Keeping Score: Facts About Credit Scores” that discusses the new consumer credit score benefits made possible by the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act of 2003.
