WASHINGTON – CUNA and NAFCU recently offered some much needed tips to consumers on the Treasury Department-sponsored video production of “Identity Theft: Outsourcing the Crooks!” Designed to help explain identity theft and how consumers can take action to prevent it, the program included several roundtable discussions. NAFCU Compliance Attorney Anthony Demangone (on right in photos) participated in the first roundtable discussion with representatives from Citigroup, Treasury and the U.S. Secret Service. CUNA Assistant General Counsel Jeff Bloch (on left in photos) sat on a panel with Nessa Feddis of the American Bankers Association and discussed actions consumers can take if they believe they have been victims of identity theft. In addition, Bloch urged consumers to view CUNA’s Web site (www.cuna.org, click on “consumer information”) and use such tools as the “ID Theft Coach.” Other groups listed on the shooting schedule included Microsoft, the Federal Trade Commission, Florida Bankers Association, E-Bay and Visa. The DVD is being made available to credit unions and banks for distribution to their members and customers and to consumers via credit card companies and the Federal Trade Commission.
