BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Credit union data processor EPL, owned jointly by the Alabama CU League and credit unions, has named Wayne Benson CEO. Benson is a former high-ranking executive with CUNA Mutual who left the company about three years ago and started his own consulting firm, The Benson Group. He joined EPL about a year ago while still living in Madison, Wis. In 2004 he moved his family to Alabama. Prior to this appointment, he was EPL’s EVP/Chief Marketing Officer. “Our products and services continue to grow in scope and quality, providing our credit union customers with traditional data processing capabilities plus impressive new components exclusive to EPL. It’s an extraordinary and exciting time to be at EPL,” said Benson. EPL is in a regeneration stage so to speak, having revamped its system completely. Its i-POWER system now utilizes Oracle and runs on a Sun Microsystems platform. EPL has 100 CU clients and 140 employees. Former EPL CEO Greg Hipp will lead the league’s Financial Services Division. Hipp finds himself now dealing with a more diverse product line including the division’s Credit Union Business Services (CUBS), Financial Services Card Programs, Shared Branching, and Mortgage Services product lines. “I am chomping at the bit to get started. Before my EPL tenure, I helped develop many of the products and services currently provided by Financial Services and now there are so many new outstanding products and services being delivered and on the drawing board,” said Hipp.
