PASADENA, Calif. – Parsons Federal Credit Union is the first customer of document-management specialist Bluepoint Solutions to deploy the company's Internet Member Access (IMA) module. The credit union began using Bluepoint's document imaging, receipt capture and signature card solutions last summer. The launch of IMA – which can be configured to allow members online access to any document stored in the credit union's Bluepoint system – followed in December. Now, in addition to offering an alternative to downloading e-statements as bulky PDF documents, the $122 million CU also lets members do such things as easily view teller receipts and checks through its Internet site at www.parsonsfcu.org. "The new service took no formal launching or announcement. It's right in your face when you go to home banking. Just click and you've got your document on your screen," says Joseph Volmar, the CU's vice president of member services. "Our membership is very tech-savvy and our lobby traffic is almost nil. We don't call ourselves a quote-en-quote Internet credit union, but that and shared branching are how we primarily serve our members. And one of the major strategies of our board is to go as paperless as possible, and this is a big step," Volmar says. The IMA solution is an add-on specifically for Bluepoint users, but new customers' existing documents often can be converted for use with IMA and other Bluepoint modules. Parsons FCU is the first to use IMA, and it's noticing significant member service enhancements. For instance, member inquiries that used to take up to a half-hour now take a minute or two, Volmar says. And although it's not a CRM system, staffers also now can have seamless access to a wide range of contact and transaction records. Bluepoint said giving members access over the Web presented challenges. The first being how to figure out how to pass the member number from the credit union's core system through their home banking system and to IMA. Second, was the security of the system. Bluepoint worked with an independent security consultant to make sure IMA is locked down tight. Bluepoint said the consultant experience was invaluable, and led to some changes.
