I always enjoy reading Mike Welch’s columns, but I was particularly enlightened by his Dec. 8 column entitled “There are lots of Good and Bad ideas Involving CUs.” His comments regarding shared branching were interesting, but it appears that, unintentionally, the discussion left the impression that “the two major” shared branching organizations are Service Center Corporation (SCC) and Financial Service Center Corporation (FSCC) when in reality, the major shared branching organization is Credit Union Service Corporation(CUSC) based in Atlanta, Georgia. Statistics will substantiate that CUSC is the largest of the three shared branching corporations with over 615 credit unions within CUSC. Of the 1,558 shared branch locations nationwide, CUSC has 57% of them. CUSC also has the largest number of shared branching transactions. In an effort to clarify the relative size of each of the shared branching companies, I thought it would be appropriate to point out that CUSC is the major shared branching company and we have not merged.
