In addition to allowing credit unions greater flexibility to expand their fields-of-membership, the Michigan Credit Union Act modernization legislation also included provisions: *permitting credit unions to serve non-members who are within a CU's field-of-membership, with basic, essential financial services such as check cashing, wire transfers, money orders and traveler's checks; *enabling CUs to offer members small, short-term loans (up to $1,000), payable within 30 days; and *allowing credit unions to make larger investments in credit union service organizations (CUSOs).
