WASHINGTON-So far credit unions have raised nearly three-quarters of a million dollars in the 2002-2004 Credit Union Cherry Blossom 10-Mile Run; now organizers want to top that in one year. The organizers of the 2005 Credit Union Cherry Blossom 10-Mile Run have set the lofty goal of raising $1 million for the 2005 race. Proceeds benefit the Children's Miracle Network. The day of the big race next year is April 3. A number of special events are being held in conjunction with the race to help achieve the $1 million goal including allowing runner sponsors, direct donations, and an April 1 Gala and Dinner with auctions. "Since 2002 – the first year that credit unions sponsored the race – credit unions have raised more than $700,000 through the race sponsorship to support CMN," Credit Union Miracle Day, Inc. Chairman Juri Valdov, CEO of Northwest Federal Credit Union in Herndon, Va., said. "With a big push in 2005, we think we can go beyond the combined $1 million we have already raised for CMN in the previous four races." Children's Miracle Network is a nonprofit organization that is an alliance of premier hospitals for children in North America. The Credit Union Cherry Blossom 10-Mile Run celebrates its 33rd running in 2005, though credit unions became the title sponsor in 2002. More than 8,500 runners from around the world participated in the 2004 run with credit union members representing more than half of the participants.
