HANSCOM AFB, Mass. -Hanscom Federal Credit Union has demonstrated its dedication to financial literacy by launching Kids CU, a program that helps families teach children about money. "Kids CU helps young members develop a strong foundation," said Hanscom FCU Board Chair Paul Marotta. "Financial literacy is a national issue. As our world becomes more complex, young people face many more choices than in the past. They need to know the value of saving and learn how to handle credit wisely." Available for all members age 16 and under, Kids CU members join one of three clubs designed specifically for their age group. Each receives quarterly newsletters and has access to a Web site with age-appropriate information and interactive games. Topics include money, education, and careers. Adults are encouraged to sponsor Kids CU members by being provided books with ideas to help them establish good money habits based on each family's values. Members of the two older groups may open a checking account and receive a specially designed ATM/check card. Checking accounts require parental consent and co-ownership.
