MADISON, Wis. – When it comes to providing employer-sponsored health insurance coverage, credit unions are holding their own compared to other small employers across the country. According to CUNA's E-Scan Credit Union Staff Benefits Survey, some 97% of all full-time credit union employees work at a credit union that offers coverage. The survey also finds that with the continued increase of health insurance costs, including coverage as part of an overall benefits package can be an advantage for credit unions in recruitment, retention, and overall employee satisfaction. "In the midst of the budget planning season, this survey offers examples and peer comparisons for consideration when forming an attractive benefits package that still maintains a healthy bottom line," said CUNA Vice President of Research Services Vicki Joyal. "For example, survey results indicate that credit unions could become even more competitive by taking measures to ensure that they are receiving the best possible insurance rates, such as more forcefully negotiating premiums and making providers compete for their business."
