MILWAUKEE – U.S. Small Business Administration Administrator Hector Barreto will deliver the keynote address at the NCUA's Access Across America Economic Empowerment Summit here on July 20. NCUA Chairman JoAnn Johnson said the Board is pleased to welcome Barreto pointing out the regulator's proposed rule amends the member business lending regulations and enables federal credit unions to participate more fully in SBA's guaranteed loan programs. Barreto was unanimously confirmed by the U.S. Senate as the 21st Administrator of the SBA in July 2001. Immediately before being nominated to his current post by President Bush, Barreto was a business owner, as well as serving as Vice Chairman of the Board for the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. NCUA established the Access Across America Initiative to facilitate the extension of affordable financial services to individual and communities across the nation including partnering with key federal departments and agencies for credit unions to develop initiatives and services to reach out to the underserved.
