JUNEAU, Alaska – Lauren MacVay, executive vice president of True North FCU, will become the CU's new president/CEO on July 1, the day after president/CEO Sharon Kelly of 21 years retires. The 35-year old MacVay is a native of Pittsburgh, Pa. who first came to Juneau on vacation in 1994 to visit friends. She moved there one year later and was hired by Alaska State Employees FCU – as True North was previously called – to work as a temporary collector. “I got the Alaska bug,” MacVay quips. She's since held various positions at the credit union including credit manager and vice president. She was named EVP in January 2003 and is responsible for supervising lending and information technology. MacVay has a B.A. in history from the University of Michigan and a law degree from the University of Pittsburgh. MacVay said she's been a “president-in-training” for the past several years. When Kelly informed the CU's board of her retirement plans, they asked her to establish a succession plan. Kelly recommended MacVay to the position, “and I've been in executive boot camp since.” -
