MIRAMAR, Fla. -Eastern Financial Florida Credit Union has joined forces with the Broward County School District and the City of Miramar to build the Eastern Financial Stadium at Everglades High School. The $1.8 billion credit union is the first company to have its name on a high school stadium since the Broward School District changed its policy. Under the new policy, private entities may secure naming rights of a stadium, auditorium or other buildings if they underwrite more than 50% of the construction costs. "We've sponsored smaller projects at the school when it first opened and it made a lot of sense for us to get involved in a project that not only the school, but the entire community will be able to enjoy," said EFFCU Vice President of Marketing Gary Lanier. Built around an existing track and field the stadium will seat up to 3,500 people and open to regional and state sporting events, band competitions and community events such as the Special Olympics in addition to high school football games. EEFCU has contributed $500,000 toward construction of the $800,000 stadium and the City of Miramar and School Board will each pay $150,000. "This project fits the mold of how the public and private sectors can successfully work together for the benefit of the common good," said Everglades H.S. Principal Paul Fetscher.
