Federal Trade Commission Director of Consumer Protection Howard Beales apprised America's Community Bankers of upcoming issues for the agency that may impact the bankers, including Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act rules, CAN SPAM rules, and predatory lending. He also noted that this year, FTC must enforce, probably through regulation, a Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation Improvement Act provision requiring privately insured institutions-namely credit unions-to disclose that they are not backed by the federal government.
