HIGHTSTOWN, N.J. – U.S. Rep. E. Scott Garrett (R-5th District) has been selected by the New Jersey Credit Union League to be the first recipient of the league's Annual Congressional Legislator of the Year Award. Garrett, who is a member of Wright Patman Congressional CU, serves on the House Budget and Financial Services committees. Prior to being elected to the House of Representatives in 2002, Garrett was a member of the New Jersey General Assembly. In 2003, he voted in support of the credit union supported initiatives that came before Congress for a vote including the Bankruptcy Abuse Reform Act, Check Clearing for the 21st Century Act ("Check 21″), the Fair and Accurate Credit Transaction Act (FACT Act), and the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Evan Childs, director of Governmental Affairs for the New Jersey League noted that, "We have strong relationships with all of our representatives, but Representative Garrett has truly gone the extra mile for the movement in the last session." A reception will be held in Garrett's honor to present him the award on Feb. 24 during CUNA's GAC.
