HIGHTSTOWN, N.J. – Twice as many credit unions in New Jersey are using CUNA's Project Zip Code, a grassroots lobbying tool, than were using it just six months ago. The New Jersey Credit Union League reported that in July 2003, eight CUs had matched their member data using the software, and as of Dec. 4, 16 credit unions had identified the legislative districts for their more than 200,000 members in New Jersey. So far the following New Jersey credit unions are participating in Project Zip Code: ABCO FCU, Affinity FCU, Atlantic City Firemen's FCU, Bay Atlantic FCU, Credit Union of New Jersey, CMCO FCU, Essex County Teachers FCU, FAA Technical Center FCU, Liberty Savings FCU, Morristown FCU, NJ Gateway FCU, People's First Choice FCU, Pinnacle FCU, Raritan Bay FCU, and South Jersey FCU. Director of Governmental Affairs at NJCUL, Evan Childs said the league "has realized tremendous potential with the Project Zip Code reports. During our September Hike the Hill program, the League provided district reports to each member of Congress. In each case, the Representative and or staff member was impressed by the fact that we are able to identify where our members vote. This is extremely powerful data."
