FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – The Washington Credit Union Foundation will receive a $57,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to extend the activity of Washington State's Economic Power Project which provides financial education and access to financial services to the unbanked or underserved populations. The USDA grant award was part of a `super-application' achieved by the WCUF through collaboration with the Northwest Center for Cooperative Development. The project was initially started with funding by a U.S. Treasury `First Accounts' grant. RoxAnne Kruger-Monahan, SVP of Member & Business Development for the Washington Credit Union League and liaison to the WCUF said the Economic Power Project's current targeted population in the state is the underserved Hispanic community. "This additional funding will enable us to extend the program to low to moderate-income individuals, regardless of ethnicity. Thousands of consumers throughout the state will benefit from the extension."
