MANCHESTER, N.H.-A press conference is being held Oct. 14 to recognize New Hampshire credit unions' $35 million affordable housing pledge in partnership with NeighborWorksr organizations. The press conference will take place at America's Credit Union Museum in Manchester and includes dignitaries such as New Hampshire Governor Craig Benson (R), NCUA Board Member Deborah Matz, Congressman Jeb Bradley (R-N.H.), local mayors, and community representatives, as well as consumers who have benefited from the NeighborWorksr programs. The pledge was spawned by one of Matz' Partnering and Leadership Successes workshops held in Massachusetts last November, which explored the benefits of partnering with community organizations. "Credit unions and NeighborWorks are natural partners," Matz emphasized. "In partnering with NeighborWorks, credit unions gain new members, provide new services, and receive deposits from community-based organizations. But the real beneficiaries are families with modest means who realize the dream of owning their own home." The pledge will fund special mortgages for consumers who cannot qualify for traditional real estate loans, emergency loans for consumers in crisis, and financial education.
