LANCASTER, S.C. – The number of women credit union CEOs is increasing, and they have Laura Fleming to thank for that. Fleming, president/CEO of Founders FCU is known as a pioneer for women CEO. She retires at the end of 2002 after 42 years with the $840-million credit union. Fleming is credited with helping Founders grow into being the state's largest credit union by expanding its field-of-membership to include select employee groups. Founders currently serves 250 SEGs. In addition to her work with Founders FCU, Fleming's illustrious career includes chairperson of the South Carolina CU League; a member of the NAFCU advisory committee; a board member of the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond-Charlotte, N.C. branch; a member of CUNA's values campaign advisory task force; a board member of the South Carolina Public Service Authority in 2000; and chairperson of the South Carolina State Board of Education in 1996.
