WASHINGTON-The National Community Reinvestment Coalition (NCRC), in conjunction with Citigroup and HomeFree-USA, hosted a two-day workshop last week aimed at providing community-based organizations training to start or expand financial education programs. The financial education curriculum focuses on helping the low-income become more financially secure. It will target money flow and asset creation, basic banking, electronic payment of government benefits, credit and debt management, homeownership preparation, and small business and economic development. The workshop scheduled on November 13 and 14, took place in Landover, Md. Each session was structured to incorporate specific community needs and concerns, as well as the basics. HomeFree-USA is a nonprofit homeownership organization created to inform, educate and prepare future and existing homeowners for mortgage approval and financial success.
