Anoka Hennepin Credit Union, Coon Rapids, Minn., Board Chairman Ron Nevala was one of 13 credit union activists from Minnesota attending the Hike the Hill trip on September 11. Hike the Hill encourages credit union activists to visit Washington D.C., throughout the year to educated elected officials on credit union issues. Nevala, a firefighter felt inspired while standing on Pennsylvania Avenue while a motorcade of 300 bicycle police rode toward the White House chanting "USA! USA!". A tee shirt from the Coon Rapids Fire Department hangs on the wall in a fire station in Manhattan, a symbol of camaraderie donated as a gift in June. Pen Air Federal Credit Union, Pensacola, Fla., has recently been voted "Best Credit Union" in an annual Reader's Choice contest held by The Florida Independent Sun Newspaper here. The award is presented in recognition of outstanding service and performance. In addition, Pen Air FCU invited Congressman Jeff Miller and his aide, Kris Tande, on a tour of the credit union's corporate office discussing credit union issues.
