VIENNA, Va.-When he's not busy being one of the fastest men in the National Football League-the fastest in his younger days-seven-time All-Pro defensive back for the Washington Redskins Darrell Green is one of the fastest fundraisers. Green, founder of the Darrell Green Youth Life Foundation, was on hand at Navy Federal Credit Union's headquarters last week to promote the institution's Combined Federal Campaign (CFC). Green's appearance helped increase employee participation in CFC and community volunteerism, according to Navy Federal officials. "At Navy Federal you all do your jobs well but that's not the only thing, it's also about giving back to the community," Green emphasized. "Your involvement with CFC demonstrates your commitment to your life's work. I'm here because Navy Federal has shown great leadership this past year, with your $570,000 contribution to September 11 efforts and last year's $275,000 fundraising campaign for CFC. And this year's fundraising campaign will be no different." Green also spoke about his nonprofit organization, which believes that for children to grow into successful adults, they need to have security and development in education, values, home, and community. The October 15 event was part of Navy Federal's annual CFC, the only authorized solicitation of employees in the federal workplace on behalf of charitable organizations. While the institution is not technically a federal workplace, it has participated for the last 25 years under the Navy.
