WASHINGTON-CUNA Vice President and Senior Legislative Counsel Gary J. Kohn was named to serve on the Jump$tart Coalition for Personal Financial Literacy Board. As a board member, Kohn will participate in governance decisions for the organization, which boasts more than 140 member organizations nationwide. "Financial education is a top priority with credit unions and CUNA," Kohn said. "Through our involvement with the Jump$tart Coalition, we can expand our support for this vital effort, and help highlight the critical role credit unions play in helping consumers become financially educated and experienced." According to Jump$tart, CUNA earned the seat on its board because of the trade association's strong support of the coalition's goals. The Jump$tart Coalition strives to improve the personal financial literacy of young adults. It evaluates the financial literacy of young adults and distributes and encourages the use of financial education standards for grades K-12. The group is active in 27 states, where many credit union leagues are also involved. Other organizations represented on the coalition's board include the American Bankers Association Education Foundation, the Consumer Federation of America, the Federal Trade Commission, and the National Association of Elementary School Principals.
