MADISON, Wis. – The "Internet Security Threat Report," a large scale study that analyzes Internet attacks based on actual empirical data, is now available in PDF format to credit unions that register through the Web site of CUNA Network Services at www.cns.coop. The report, produced by Riptech, Inc., provides a detailed analysis of attack trends that occurred between January 1, 2002 and June 30, 2002 and reflects data that has been consistently collected and analyzed over an extended period of time. "Riptech is a widely respected provider of corporate Internet security services, and is CUNA Network Services partner in providing secure network services to credit unions," said John Hobko, president of CUNA Network Services. "This report is a unique tool in the market to accurately study and gauge the current state of Internet attacks, in terms of likely targets and vulnerabilities." Overall, the report indicates that Internet attacks remain intense, pervasive, and potentially severe. The average attacks per company per week was 28% higher during this six-month period, as compared to the prior six-month period. However, in spite of this rise, the report provides the first quantifiable evidence that at least some companies are achieving success in defending their networks adequately. As a result, the percentage of companies in the sample set that suffered severe attacks declined measurably. "This report should serve as ample evidence to all businesses that have an online presence, including credit unions, that security is of the utmost importance," Hobko explains.
