WASHINGTON-In an effort to make its proceedings more open, the House Financial Services Committee has started Webcasting video of hearings and markups on the committee's homepage. The committee has been providing an audio stream of its meetings over the Web for the past couple of years. The link for committee proceedings is available at www.house.gov/financialservices under the `featured item' section at the lower left-hand corner of the page. The video coverage is only available live and is not archived on the site. "We hope by providing enhanced coverage of our meetings on the Web we can reach out to a wider audience on issues that affect every American family like home mortgages, retirement investments, the safety of bank deposits and the affordability of insurance coverage," Committee Chairman Michael G. Oxley (R-Ohio) said in a statement.
