FARMERS BRANCH, Texas – Texas Credit Union League President/CEO Dick Ensweiler penned a letter to Dr. Juan Hernandez, advisor to the president, of the Presidential Office of Mexicans Abroad, pointing out that none of the 90 communities slated as beneficiaries of the Partnership for Prosperity identified the need for access to financial services as a development project priority. While congratulating Hernandez on his efforts to move the Partnership for Prosperity initiative forward, Ensweiler wrote that, "From the perspective of United States credit unions, particularly those located in border states such as Texas, we would anticipate that access to financial services in these 90 communities will create local opportunities for people to accumulate assets. I hope that you will incorporate access to financial services as a leading priority for the Partnership for Prosperity," Ensweiler wrote. Ensweiler also used the letter as an opportunity to urge Mexico President Vicente Fox to encourage President Bush to allow credit unions to provide remittance services to individuals outside their membership.
