<p>BATON ROUGE, La. – Louisiana State Credit Union is celebrating two milestones – the credit union's 60th anniversary, and its new federal charter. The $45 million credit union is now doing business as Eagle Louisiana Federal Credit Union. Chartered in 1942 as a state-chartered credit union, Eagle Louisiana FCU's field of membership is predominantly made up of Department of Social Services employees. The credit union also counts a few select employee groups of 50 employees or less in its FOM. Its membership is just under 10,000 members. Acknowledging that so many credit union charter conversions these days are from federal-to-state, ELFCU President/CEO Ginger Minint said a federal charter was a better fit for the former state-chartered credit union. "Being associated with NCUA and having a federal charter is a better fit for us in the long term because of the access to information and support we'll get from the agency. The NCUA Board is proactive and progressive. Having a national scope as a federal charter will bring Eagle Louisiana to a higher level."</p>
