<p>NEW YORK – In its January issue, Money magazine has named Kent Denver Credit Union, which is a branch of Aurora, Colorado-based Gateway Credit Union, the richest, largest student-run credit union in the country. Operating from the Kent Denver School, a private, college-prep academy of 620 sixth to 12th-graders, the $2 million credit union has over 920 accounts ranging from $5 to more than $100,000. Established in 1984 by math teacher Donna Duvall-Serrano because she wanted her students to realize that math has a practical application in their lives, the credit union helps students develop various business skills and learn responsibility. According to the article, the credit union "not only teaches and prepares students for dealing with finance and money, but it plays a vital role in the culture of the school. At Kent Denver, the credit union shapes the universe and lets students wield adult power."</p>
