MADISON, Wis.-The Credit Union Executives Society has named Motorola Employees Credit Union President/CEO John C. Fiore the 2001 CUES Executive of the Year. Fiore was presented the honor by last year's winner, retired USA FCU president/CEO Dorothy Nouhan, during a special awards banquet at the CUES' CEO Network held in Las Vegas. In accepting, Fiore paid tribute to a "dedicated, hardworking staff and supportive board," as well as "the people who got me started in this movement. This movement is very addictive-it makes you want to get more involved," he said, encouraging other CEOs "to help their employees to get addicted to this movement and want to be future leaders." Fiore joined the MECU staff 33 years ago and started his career as a loan processor quickly moving up the ladder in a variety of lending positions before being offered his first management position in 1978. He was then promoted and served in several executive capacities before taking over as president/CEO in 1985. An active CUES member since 1986, Fiore has served as a director of the Illinois Credit Union League since 1989, and is on the board of the Illinois Credit Union Foundation. In addition, he is currently the chairman of the National Credit Union Foundation and of Card Services for Credit Unions. Fiore is also an active member of the community raising funds for a variety of children's causes, including the "Teddy Bears for Kids" program that provides teddy bears for use in state troopers' cars, and the Children's Miracle Network.
