Stephen Nelson's two-decade-plus credit union industry career has provided him with a valuable perspective on the credit union-league relationship, having worked both inside the walls of a credit union and for California's, Nevada's and Utah's Credit Unions in advocacy and operations leadership. In his new role as Executive Director of Fuel Solutions, a nonprofit formed by the three state associations in 2025, he's been given the opportunity to strengthen not only credit union-league relations but league operations regionally.
In this episode of "Shared Accounts With CU Times", Nelson discusses his priorities in his current role, which he began earlier this year, and how Fuel Solutions is providing needed resources and support for credit union leagues.
(Side note: To listen to the episode we recorded last year with Fuel Solutions' original Executive Director Larry Palochik upon the organization's launch, click here).
Nelson also provides fascinating insight into the history of credit union leagues and what he believes credit unions need most from their league based on his many years of relationship-building within the movement.
And, a Shared Accounts episode wouldn't be complete without exposing a few details about the guest's childhood and family life. In this one, Nelson shares his favorite summer jobs and activities from his youth, as well as explains why today, working in the credit union system is truly a family affair.
