When Jim Nussle announced his upcoming retirement as president/CEO of America’s Credit Unions earlier this year, the staff at CU Times began bracing for the big news of who his successor would be. That news came in late August, and as soon as we heard the name Scott Simpson - a long-time credit union League system leader with roots in D.C. politics, and a two-time Shared Accounts guest - we knew we had to bring him back on the pod.

In this episode of Shared Accounts With CU Times, Simpson candidly discusses his unexpected journey to landing the top job at the largest credit union trade association; how he’s transitioning into his new role after serving as CEO of California’s Credit Unions, Nevada’s Credit Unions and Utah’s Credit Unions; and the challenges and opportunities the credit union movement faces today.

He also offers his take on hot topics such as the ongoing lawsuit concerning former NCUA Board Members Todd Harper and Tanya Otsuka, the credit union tax exemption and small credit unions’ struggle to survive.

And, since his new job requires a move to the nation’s capital, we had to talk about all things Washington, D.C. - including where to find the best food. Simpson also introduced us to a new term: "HOLY CATS!" What does that mean? Take a listen.

Trust us, you don’t want to miss this exclusive interview with Simpson as he embarks on his biggest career move yet!
