Houston, Texas

First Community Credit Union (FCCU) has expanded its field of membership to include residents across 41 Texas counties, a move that now makes the credit union accessible to nearly 26 million Texans, which is roughly 88% of the state’s population.

The Texas Credit Union Department approved the expansion, which allows FCCU to serve individuals and businesses who live, work, worship or attend school in the state’s four largest metro areas: Houston, Dallas-Fort Worth, Austin and San Antonio.

“This expansion will now allow us to serve members in San Antonio and the capitol of Texas, Austin. We are excited to be serving more Texans,” FCCU President/CEO TJ Tijerina said.

FCCU, which began in 1954 as Spring Branch Educators Credit Union, currently serves over 175,000 members with $2.7 billion in assets and operates 17 branches.

The 16 newly added counties, including Travis, Bexar, Williamson, Hays and Comal, expand FCCU’s reach to regions that collectively represent more than nine million residents. Combined with the existing 25-county service area across Houston and Dallas-Fort Worth, FCCU now serves counties that include approximately 25.9 million people, based on U.S. Census Bureau estimates.

“This expansion enables us to strengthen our connection with more communities and improve the financial well-being of our growing member base,” Tijerina said. “People helping people is the core of who we are.”

Recognized twice as Houston’s Best Credit Union by the Houston Chronicle, FCCU continues to enhance its digital capabilities while maintaining its community-based roots. Its mission remains focused on financial empowerment.

“From our humble beginnings in 1954, First Community has continued to grow and expand to new heights,” Tijerina added. “We look forward to expanding and improving the financial well-being of our members and community.”

FCCU’s membership is now open to individuals affiliated with any of the 41 counties through residence, employment, education, or worship, as well as family members of current members.
