While home prices began rising seemingly everywhere several years ago and remain elevated today, there are some communities that have long been out of reach for most American home buyers. Last October, RealtyHop.com released its report “The Most Expensive U.S. Zip Codes in 2024,” and the top 10 can be found here.
Simply out of curiosity, CU Times investigated whether any credit unions operate branches within the 10 U.S. zip codes with the highest median home prices, and while no branches popped up within the borders of any of the zip codes (most are home to majority-residential neighborhoods, with some confined to islands), we found 16 credit unions with branches within an approximate radius of 10 miles of nine of the zip codes. The country’s seventh most expensive zip code of 92657, in Newport Coast, Calif., where the median home price is $5 million, does not appear to have a credit union branch within a 10-mile radius.
