Sarah Bang

Newly-appointed NCUA Chairman Kyle S. Hauptman has appointed Sarah Bang as NCUA chief of staff and senior policy advisor, the federal agency announced Wednesday.

Bang brings over 40 years of experience in the credit union industry and has served as Hauptman’s senior policy advisor since he first joined the NCUA Board in December 2020. She previously served as president/CEO for Financial Service Centers Cooperative Inc. (FSCC), a credit union shared branching and payments network with branches in all 50 states and five countries, before moving to CO-OP Financial Services (now Velera), where she served as EVP of industry relations prior to retiring from the company in 2017.

While leading FSCC, Bang grew the organization from less than 100 branches to over 3,300 branches and 2,200 full-service financial kiosks; added P2P text banking, 24-hour call center services and remote deposit capture services; and shifted the organization from a for-profit structure to a cooperative.

Bang has also managed various CUSOs including a regional shared branch and ATM network; item processing center; and companies providing insurance, mortgage processing, call center and auditing services to credit unions. In addition, she frequently appeared as a speaker at conferences and facilitated dozens of strategic planning sessions for financial institutions.

“Sarah brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to this role,” Hauptman said. “Her experience managing credit union service organizations, along with her knowledge of the credit union industry, regulations and policy administration, will be of immense value as we work to improve the regulatory environment for current and future credit unions.”

Her accolades have included receiving the Herb Wegner Memorial award in 2014, being one of the first inductees into the Credit Union Museum’s Herstory exhibit in 2022 and being inducted into the Credit Union Service Organization Hall of Fame.
