Former credit union employee Julie Ann Turk was sentenced to twoand half years in federal prison last week by a U.S. District Courtjudge in Allentown, Pa. for embezzling more than $600,000 from the$66.3 million Allentown Federal Credit Union.

Federal Judge Jeffrey Schmehl ordered Turk, 46, of Slatington,Pa. to pay $641,637 in restitution and serve five years ofsupervised release following her prison term.

In March 2018, she pleaded guilty to five felony counts of bankfraud, embezzlement and money laundering.

Federal prosecutors said Turk held several positions, including teller, Master Cardcoordinator, teller supervisor and general ledger coordinator atthe Pennsylvania credit union, which gave her access to generalledger accounts and member accounts.

From January 2009 to April 2016, Turk created fake credit unionfees, debited them from AFCU's general ledger account and thencredited the fees to her personal credit union account or intomember accounts that were dormant or had very little activity,according to court documents.

Turk also stole money from member accounts. She was able toconduct these transactions using her teller number and otherco-workers' teller numbers and passwords, federal prosecutorssaid.

Court documents show Turk stole $159,023 from the credit union'sgeneral ledger account, $209,984 from AFCU member accounts and$272,630 from general ledger accounts that was passed through tovarious member accounts.

Some of the stolen funds were deposited into accounts of Turk'srelatives.
