There is no Republican on the ballot in the district, which at one time was represented by John F. Kennedy and former Democratic House Speaker Thomas "Tip" O'Neill.  Pressley is poised to become the first African American woman to represent the Bay State.

Capuano is a member of the Financial Services' Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit, Housing and Insurance and Oversight and Investigations subcommittees.

During the current election cycle, CUNA's political action committee contributed $5,000 to his campaign. NAFCU, which operates a much smaller political action committee did not contribute to the campaign.

Capuano is an outspoken supporter of the CFPB and the Dodd-Frank Act.

"The worst economic crisis since the Great Depression required a substantial and sweeping response and this legislation goes far in addressing the problems that contributed to the financial crisis," he said after the Dodd-Frank conference report was passed in the House in 2010.

Capuano is the fourth House member to be defeated in a re-nomination bid and the second Democrat defeated.
