The $466 million NRL Federal Credit Union appointed Kristin Shultz president/CEO, the Alexandria, Va.-based credit union said Monday.

She replaced Linda Powell who retired and served NRLFCU for 16 years, including the last three years as CEO.

Shultz previously served as the credit union's chief operations officer and executive vice president from 2016 when she joined NRLFCU.

For more than 13 years, she held several executive positions with the $3.4 billion Northwest Federal Credit Union in Herndon, Va., where Shultz served as vice president of operations, business intelligence, member experiences and controller. She is a certified project management professional and earned the Credit Union Executive Society Certified Credit Union Executive designation

“The board of directors is excited to begin a new chapter with Kristin Shultz as she takes up the reins as our new CEO,” said  Richard Bevilacqua, NRLFCU board chair. “She brings continuity from her experience as COO, and we're exceedingly confident in her abilities to take us forward into the exciting times ahead.”

Founded in 1946 to serve the Naval Research Lab, the credit union currently serves more than 23,000 members.
