CU Times' reporting from CUNA's Governmental Affairs Conference and recent columns from editors Michael Ogden and Natasha Chilingerian got readers fired up to share their opinions on politics and more. Here's what they had to say.

"Melrose Credit Union Conserved," Feb. 10

Melrose (and maybe Montauk) were shopping these loans to other credit unions. I know the one I'm affiliated with said No ——- Way and ran out of the room. I have no idea how many others might have been foolish enough to join in nor what their exposures might be.

"Managers Need to Brush Up on Communication, Diplomacy," Feb. 21

Sure, that's because the snowflake generation can only communicate in 140 characters or less and has no clue what a capital letter or what punctuation is. Can you get them to spell or construct a letter properly? Get back to work … oh, sorry if I hurt your feelings. Really, get back to work. I'd like to see the survey of the bosses on how skilled their workers are in job ready skills.

"Middle America Is Everywhere," Feb. 22

Sadly, if you tried to hold a large scale event in "middle America," the attendance would be very sparse. Way too many CU leaders base their training and conference schedule on the locale.

I hope credit unions will stay as far away from any Clinton association as possible.

"Dodd-Frank Overhaul Takes Center Stage, As GAC Convenes," Feb. 24

Dodd-Frank is a terrible piece of legislation. I wrote about this at wendellfountain.com quite some time ago. Since deregulation is one of President Trump's campaign promises, this bodes well for the nation and credit unions in general.

"House Passes Bill to Give Trump Control Over NCUA, CFPB Rules," March 2

President Trump will be one of the best supporters of credit unions ever! The Democrats can yell and scream all they want, but if Senator McConnell wants to do it, 51 votes is all that's needed in the Senate. Harry Reid did it when he was the Majority Leader and Mitch McConnell should follow suit. Credit unions need regulatory relief just like other businesses in America.

"Is It Time to Get Political?" March 8

Credit unions should have been politically involved from the beginning. We have 100 million credit union members-plus and we should be taking care of their interests. Much of what I read in this article sounds left-leaning and inaccurate. To be politically active is a good thing, it's not taking sides, but imploring others to hear your concerns. It should not be about left or right, it should be about what's best for America as a whole. My guess is President Trump is going to be a great supporter of credit unions. The bottom line is: Credit unions have no value if we don't have a country.
