NCR and Wells Fargo announced today they have launched anew line of weather-resistant, full-service ATMs, meaning cash-onlyATMs won't be the only kinds built for the outdoors.

The market's existing weatherized ATMs can only dispense cash,NCR said, but the NCR SelfServ 37, which has already been rolledout to more than 50 Wells Fargo units in California, can apparentlywithstand humidity, rain and temperatures ranging from -31 degreesFarenheit to 113 degrees Farenheit.

Because it doesn't need an external structure to protect it, theSelfServ 37 can also take deposits, cash checks and offer bill payfrom free-standing outdoor locations. The new ATM is also compliantwith the Americans with Disabilities Act, according to theannouncement, and takes up 49% less space than the typicalfull-function ATM that needs a dedicated external structuredoes.

The ATMs will be available to all financial institutions, according to an NCR spokesperson.

“The industry's first full-function weatherized ATM, theSelfServ 37, will help [Wells Fargo] offer more ATM services inmore convenient locations for their customers,” Adam Crighton, vicepresident and general manager of Financial Services Hardware, NCRCorporation, said. “This is the type of innovation that financialinstitutions can expect from NCR as we continue investing in theATM channel as part of our strategy to bring omnichannel banking tolife.”

Omnichannel banking is at the forefront of the technologicalrevolution going on in credit unions. The objective is to givecredit unions the ability to provide service across variouschannels in a way that is consistent and unified for members.
