A little friendly competition among employees at NW Priority Credit Union has helped in the fight against Muscular Dystrophy.

The $230 milion credit union based in Portland, Ore. has raised $11,028.34 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association through its "Fill the Satchel" fundraising campaign.

"We've partnered with Branch 82 of National Association of Letter Carriers for the past four years and we love doing this," Lori Connelly, vice president of marketing at NWPCU said.  "We don't look at this as a contest, although there is some friendly competition among our locations. We mostly look forward to the act of giving and that's what gives back more than anything."

In 2013, NWPCU helped NALC Branch 82 achieve second in the nation in donations among NALC branches, launching them to just shy of top fundraiser by $40. This year, the credit union more than doubled the amount raised in 2013, with $3,290.26 of the total contribution raised by its Milwaukie branch alone.

"Friendly contests arose, unprompted by managers, as well as advice and words of encouragement between branches, and in the end, we reached our numbers this year by remaining upbeat and compassionate in our support of the MDA," Mark Turnham, NWPCU CEO said.

The "Fill the Satchel" campaign ran throughout the month of October. Gearing up for the holidays, NWPCU has kicked off a toy drive. All donated toys will be distributed to the Doernbecher's Children Hospital and SE Portland foster children.
