Following a presentation of awards to teams that collected the most donations, Northwest Federal employees loaded items into a truck for delivery.

Knowing that the need for food donations is critical during summer months, the $2.6 billion Northwest Federal Credit Union and its Foundation aimed for a lofty 12,000-pound goal for its Summertime Food Drive. When all donations were collected, the Herndon, Va.-based credit union discovered it had exceeded its goal by 62%, collected nearly 10 tons of food and donations.

“That’s a lot of spaghetti sauce, peanut butter, canned juice and cereal,” President/CEO Chris McDonald said. “We knew 12,000 pounds was a substantial goal – much larger than any we’ve set before. But our staff, members and friends in the community really stepped up to the challenge. What a difference their efforts will make in helping to feed those in need.”
