The $137 million Tempe Schools Credit Union in Tempe, Ariz., will change its name to Landings Credit Union on Nov. 1 to remove “perceived barriers to membership and establish the foundation for future growth,” according to a statement released by the credit union.
“This is an exciting time as we write the next chapter in our history and become Landings Credit Union,” said Margaret Hunnicutt, president/CEO of the cooperative. “This name is strong and distinctive, just like our members. The name honors our past and lays the foundation for our future.”
The credit union was founded in Tempe. Its new name pays tribute to the city's founding as a safe landing place for those settlers arriving on Hayden's Ferry in the 19th century.
Chartered in 1953, Tempe Schools CU serves more than 18,000 members and operates three branches.
