Credit unions serving the nation's armed forces came under praise Tuesday from NCUA Board Member Michael Fryzel.

“The men and women of the armed forces join your credit unions because they understand value. You must keep up this good work for military members and their families,” he told the Defense Credit Union Council at the group's 50th annual conference Tuesday in White Sulphur Springs, W.Va.

Fryzel reviewed the economic events buffering the industry the past five years, and offered encouragement to the more than 400 credit union professionals gathered at the conference.

“As you know, the path will not always be smooth, and it may not always be straight, but you and the industry as a whole must hold close to your vision. Keep thinking big, keep thinking long term, and keep your eye on a better future. I commend you on your service and wish you 50 more years of success,” he said.
