The $1.9 billion Chartway Federal Credit Union in Virginia Beach, Va., plans to consolidate two of its divisional credit unions based in the Greater Salt Lake area – Utah Central and HeritageWest – by Oct. 1.

"Earlier this year, we met with our employees and spoke with our members about how we could strengthen the overall member experience in this area," said Ron Burniske, president/CEO of Chartway FCU.

"They (members) told us they weren't aware that HeritageWest and Utah Central belonged to a family of credit unions, giving them access to any of their branch locations, ATMs and online, mobile, and telephone banking services. So, it only made sense to create the clarity members were seeking by uniting the two brands under one name: HeritageWest," Burniske said.

The transition process should be a seamless one for credit union members, as all divisions within the Chartway FCU family of credit unions operate on the same systems and offer the same suite of products, Burniske said.

HeritageWest CU and Utah Central CU merged into Chartway FCU in 2010 and 2011, respectively.

"We are grateful that our members were honest enough to tell us that what's really important to them is not the name on the building but the people who are in it," Burniske said. "Bringing these credit unions together will simply enable us to better serve our members, make it even more convenient to bank with us, and to provide the best possible financial experience."
