The NCUA on Monday said it has named 22-year agency veteran Matthew Biliouris to the new position of deputy director in the Office of Consumer Protection.

Biliouris most recently has been director of the Division of Supervision in the NCUA's Office of Examination and Insurance.

Biliouris graduated from the University of Rhode Island in 1991 and joined the agency in 1992 as an examiner in Portland, Maine, the NCUA said in its announcement. He also has been a special assistant to the executive director and to Board Member Michael Fryzel, and a supervision analyst, information systems officer and program officer.

“While I served as chairman, Matt was on my staff and proved to be an invaluable asset. His good work has continued during his tenure in the Office of Examination and Insurance. His knowledge of credit unions, the rules that govern them and his vast experience at NCUA will enable him to continue his fine work in our Office of Consumer Protection,” Fryzel said in the announcement.

 “Matt Biliouris is an excellent choice for this new job,” Board Chairman Debbie Matz said. “With his considerable knowledge of NCUA's operations and our examination program, and his solid experience dealing with the policy issues affecting credit unions, Matt will hit the ground running to solve problems and produce results. He will be an important asset to this consumer-focused office that is central to our mission.”
