The NCUA on Monday said it has named 22-year agency veteranMatthew Biliouris to the new position of deputy director in theOffice of Consumer Protection.

Biliouris most recently has been director of the Division ofSupervision in the NCUA's Office of Examination and Insurance.

Biliouris graduated from the University of Rhode Island in 1991and joined the agency in 1992 as an examiner in Portland, Maine,the NCUA said in its announcement. He also has been a specialassistant to the executive director and to Board Member MichaelFryzel, and a supervision analyst, information systems officer andprogram officer.

“While I served as chairman, Matt was on my staff and proved tobe an invaluable asset. His good work has continued during histenure in the Office of Examination and Insurance. His knowledge ofcredit unions, the rules that govern them and his vast experienceat NCUA will enable him to continue his fine work in our Office ofConsumer Protection,” Fryzel said in the announcement.

“Matt Biliouris is an excellent choice for this new job,”Board Chairman Debbie Matz said. “With his considerable knowledge of NCUA'soperations and our examination program, and his solid experiencedealing with the policy issues affecting credit unions, Matt willhit the ground running to solve problems and produce results.
