Effective Monday, CUNA has eliminated two positions in its Washington-based communications division, according to an email sent to board members and obtained by Credit Union Times.
Mark Wolff, who was most recently senior vice president of communications and had been with the trade association more than 22 years, will leave the organization.
“We certainly wish Mark well in his future endeavors and regret that this change needed to be made at this time; however, it was necessary given our continuing efforts to streamline the organization and improve our service to our members and state Leagues and Associations,” said President/CEO Bill Cheney in the email.
Consumer and Website Coordinator Jill Stevenson's position was also eliminated.
In a draft email to CUNA staff that was included in the board communication, Cheney said the communications department is “being restructured to ensure it is effective and efficient in delivering the message of CUNA and credit unions to our member credit unions, state Leagues and Associations, the media, lawmakers, and consumers.”
That restructuring will include a transition for current Vice President of Communications Pat Keefe into internal communications. The email said a new director of public relations position will be created for working with the press.
Social Media Manager Amaia Kirtland will assume the day-to-day responsibilities of aSmarterChoice, which Stevenson handled, in addition to the other aspects of CUNA's social media efforts. Her title is being transitioned to social and digital media manager, Cheney said.
Current Communications Coordinator Angela Barnett will transition into a communications specialist position and will assist with public relations, internal communications and social media, and Administrative Assistant Ruth Shirley will work for Executive Vice President, Strategic Communications and Engagement Paul Gentile.
Cheney said Gentile will manage all the communications restructuring changes. Gentile declined to comment further on the restructure.
