The $161 million YOUR Community Credit Union in Irving, Texas, and Coppell High School in nearby Coppell have joined forces to provide a series of commercials for the credit union using the in-school broadcast program, KCBY.
KCBY, under the direction of Irma Kennedy, has produced two commercials for YOUR Community Credit Union. One commercial explains the benefit of banking and having an account with YCCU and the other shows just how easy it is to make a mobile deposit with YCCU's new mobile banking app.
In the commercial, “Not YOUR Parents' Bank,” filmed in black and white, a teen girl walks up to a scary-looking building where a banker dressed like a character in a 1940s movie takes her money and counts it incorrectly. When she leaves the bank and walks into a credit union, the commercial turns to color and all is right in the world.
“YCCU wanted to have a series of commercials produced for our website's homepage, YouTube, and Facebook page, said Mark O'Bryan, YCCU president/CEO.
“We thought the best place to start when trying to reach a younger demographic was with a young demographic,” O'Bryan said. “We couldn't be more pleased with the outcome of the commercials and want to thank everyone that worked on the project.”
YCCU works alongside, and supports, a number of community and school organizations.
Students working with KCBY must be selected for the program and are required to take journalism and visual media classes and through an application process. Beginning in 1995, the school-based TV program has entertained and informed students. The organization is led by the students at Coppell High School and is built upon mastering communications.
Students who work on KCBY, a student-run TV station at the high school, learn how to write for the show as well put together the technical aspects and behind-the-scenes work for the news program.
