Fort Campbell Federal Credit Union,Clarksville,Tenn., employees have been busy for charity. They donated their time and talent to help three worthy causes: the Christian County Heart Walk, Empty Bowls and Bowl for Kids' Sake. They raised $2,875 for the American Heart Association's annual Heart Walk event held at Bradford Square Mall in Hopkinsville, Ky. Fifteen employee-walkers and their families laced up to show their support in the fight against heart disease. Also, employees painted 30 handcrafted bowls to be used for the 2013 Empty Bowls fundraiser. Empty Bowls is a community effort to help fight hunger in the Clarksville area, it benefits three food-based charities, For a $15 donation, guests were given a simple meal of soup and bread and were allowed to pick a hand painted bowl to take home with them as a reminder that there are always empty bowls in the world.FortCampbell Federal Credit Union joined the fun to help raise money at the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Clarksville 31st Annual Bowl for Kids' Sake. Four teams of bowlers from the Credit Union rolled their hearts out against other local financial institutions for an hour of fun competition, while making a difference for the children ofClarksville andMontgomeryCounty. The Main Event and Bankers Challenge raised $61,000 for Big Brothers Big Sisters.
Hudson River Community Credit Union, Glens Falls,N.Y., presented a check in the amount of $640 to Matt Congdon, director of theGlens FallsAreaYouthCenter. The donation was raised through member participation in HRCCU's first annual fun day at the Great Escape. TheGlens FallsAreaYouthCenter promotes an educational atmosphere requiring participants to be enrolled in school, working toward a GED or involved in vo-tech training. It is the only teen drop-in facility of its kind in the area. The main goals of the youth center are to promote, develop and oversee relationship building with children ages 12 to 18 and enable them to become productive members of society by encouraging social, intellectual, and emotional growth. Hudson Community separately announced that, thanks to the generosity of members from three area credit unions, the 2012 Credit Union Care for Kids Campaign raised over $4,000 to benefit pediatric programs at four area hospitals:Glens FallsHospital, Saratoga Care,SunnyviewRehabilitationHospital (Schenectady) and Seton Health/St. Mary's Hospital (Troy). Credit unions from the Southern Chapter of the Adirondack District of CUANY Inc. who participated in the 2012 campaign included: Hudson River Community Credit Union;Saratoga's Community Federal Credit Union; and TCT Federal Credit Union. Fundraising was conducted throughout the year and included selling stuffed animals, candy bars, mugs, hats, raffle drawings, lobby coin drops and business donations. Credit Union Care for Kids is a community involvement program whose goal is to raise money for children's hospitals and pediatric units throughoutNew YorkState.

Indiana Members Credit Union,Indianapolis, hosted its fifth annual bowl-a-thon employee fundraising event. About 400 bowlers attended the event, filling two flights of 80 lanes. The event raised over $12,000 for the Indiana Members Foundation, to help children in need in the communities IMCU serves. Features of the day included a special appearance by Indiana Fever Mascot, Freddy, and over 90 door prizes. Each bowler that participated received two games and shoes. In addition, a team prize for best decorated T-shirt was awarded.
Mountain America Credit Union,West Jordan,Utah, announced that threeUtahhigh schools took top honors at the inaugural DECA Financial Literacy Challenge hosted by MountainAmerica, earning top finisherHerrimanHigh School$10,000, second placeSyracuseHigh School$3,000 and third-place finisherTimpviewHigh School$1,000. For the challenge, allUtahhigh schools with DECA clubs were eligible to compete to create the most effective financial literacy marketing campaign. Clubs were judged on their marketing plan, creative brief and creative concepts, execution, results, and their presentation and paper for the recent DECA state conference and competition.
NEFCU, Westbury,N.Y., recently hit the $1 million mark in donated scholarships and grants for high school students, student teachers, graduate students and educators. The scholarship and grant programs provide an opportunity to reward students who will be our future leaders and acknowledge those educators who provide the inspiration, support and resources to help them succeed, said Valerie Garguilo, vice president of marketing and community relations for NEFCU. NEFCU offers four scholarship and grant opportunities each year, including the FYI Teacher Grants, Making a Difference Family Scholarship, Making a Difference Premier Scholarship and the NEFCU Making a Difference College Scholarship Program for Student Teachers and Graduate Students.
St. Helens Federal Community Credit Union,St. Helens,Ore., announced that its employees helped raise more than $7,000 for local charities through its 2012 CU 4 A Cause campaign. The credit union's staff recently presented checks to the Amani Center, Columbia Pacific Food Bank, and American Cancer Society's Relay for Life Team (ColumbiaCounty). SHCU started CU 4 A Cause in 2011 as a way for employees to choose and actively support community-based charities. Every two years, employees will vote to select partner charities and commit to helping them raise money and volunteering as needed. SHCU members are also encouraged to participate in fundraising raffles, and the credit union provides an initial $500 grant to each charity. In 2011 and 2012, SHCU employees and members raised more than $13,000 for the partnering nonprofits. SHCU has expanded the number of charities to eight for the 2013-2014 campaign.
St. Mary's Bank,Manchester,N.H., partnered with Computer Technology Assistance Corps to donate 12 refurbished personal computers toManchesterWestHigh School. The nation's first credit union donated the used PC's, and CTAC installed refurbished hard drives and installed Windows 7 on each computer. St. Mary's Bank covered the cost of the computer upgrades and software, and together with CTAC delivered the computers to the high school.
United Heritage Credit Union,Austin,Texas, said that its employees gave a total of 77 hours of their time to participate in Trudy's Bowl for Kids and raised $3,223 in donations from individuals and $1,600 in donations from the credit union and United Heritage Charity Foundation. All funds benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Texas. Trudy's Bowl for Kids is an annual Austin-area bowl-a-thon fundraiser that has provided financial support for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Texas for 30 years. This year the event raised $172,973. Big Brothers Big Sisters is a nonprofit organization that provides nurturing mentor relationships for children facing adversity.
