Regarding Sarah Snell Cooke's blog post, "Fighting in the Sandbox Just Gets Sand in Your Eyes," [www.cuinsight.com].
I appreciate her thoughts and ideas on this topic.
Our credit union dropped its membership in the Credit Union Association of the Dakotas in 2012 and went the entire year without any trade association affiliation. For 2013, we reviewed our options and decided to join NAFCU. Our primary reasons were very similar to the points you raise.

We certainly appreciate the lobbying efforts by both trades on Capitol Hill, but in South Dakota we have no state credit union regulatory body so our need of a state trade association affiliation is rendered moot or at least minimal. If a direct support option for CUNA were available, I believe we would have seriously considered it.
I hope Cooke's comments spur additional discussions at those organizations. I know for our CUAD, the number of credit unions in their market area continue to shrink due to mergers, so they have to be concerned about the viability of their business model.
Thank you for the insight and expression of it.
