The $3 billion, 248,000-member San Antonio Federal Credit Union used a solar-powered ATM to help promote its loans to help area residents install solar panels.

SACU used the machine at Solar San Antonio, an annual event meant to promote solar technology and solar energy use in San Antonio and South Texas.

The credit union was the first financial institution in the area to offer loans for solar equipment installation, and staff from the credit union used mobile phones and tablet computers to help between 3,500 and 4,000 attendees navigate to loan applications and see the credit union's mobile banking application.

"SACU's contribution to the success of Solar Fest and to the increased adoption of solar in San Antonio is a true public service," said Lanny Sinkin, executive director of Solar San Antonio.

"Their creative approach to helping people finance solar installations on their homes is making solar affordable and accessible to people throughout the city," Sinkin said.

"We are proud to serve our community's lending needs," said Jeff Mouat, SACU's senior manager of direct lending. "SACU looks forward to the evolution of green initiatives, such as those Solar San Antonio and our members want and need."
